One thing I hate, and I have recoiled from it for years, is illustrating guns and equipment. I can’t stand it. Mongoose Publishing had me illustrate pages upon pages of equipment for a few Mongoose 2e Traveller books a few years back. I am grateful for the opportunity they gave me, but don’t get me wrong—it was pure drudgery.
That's one of the things about being an artist. You must keep pushing through work even when you don’t like it.
I then went and did what Mongoose did to me to myself with Atomic Punk 2240… I don’t know what I was thinking. It’s drained my fun in this, but I realize that once I get through these images, I have more fun images to paint for the book next, like monsters and action scenes. Below is a complete page of weapons.
All in all, this double-page spread looks good. I have to read another page on laser and plasma weapons. On top of that, I have commission work I need to get to.
Worth the effort. The care and attention shows in your work.
It may be a chore, but they do look absolutely fantastic dude
